AI Search Visibility Readiness Checklist
Check the retrieval system before chasing AI-search screenshots.
Use this checklist to identify whether crawler access, canonical architecture, entity clarity, useful information, source evidence and measurement are strong enough to support serious AI-search visibility work.
Six readiness questions
1. Can important information be discovered and rendered?
Confirm that priority pages are reachable through crawlable links, return the intended status, expose their core meaning without fragile client-side dependencies and are not blocked by unintended crawler controls.
2. Is the canonical information architecture clear?
Check whether duplicate or parameterized URLs compete to represent the same information and whether important topics have a clear preferred page supported by internal links.
3. Are the organization and its entities understandable?
Review how the company, services, products, people, locations and research are represented across visible content, structured data and important third-party sources.
4. Does the content add information worth retrieving?
Look for original evidence, first-hand implementation detail, expert interpretation, current facts, comparisons, limitations or decision frameworks rather than interchangeable summary copy.
5. Can you distinguish mentions, citations and recommendations?
Define the outcomes you will observe before testing. A brand mention, owned citation, third-party citation, recommendation and referral are different signals.
6. Can the test be repeated?
Document prompts or queries, platform, date, location or account context where relevant, source observations and repetition rules so changes can be evaluated over time.
Signals that the program is ready
Technical access
Priority information is crawlable, renderable and canonically unambiguous.
Entity clarity
The business and its important relationships are represented consistently across owned and external sources.
Information advantage
Important pages contain evidence or expertise that gives retrieval systems a reason to select them.
Source awareness
The team knows which owned, earned and competitor sources appear around the questions that matter.
Repeatable measurement
Tests can be rerun with documented inputs and outcomes rather than relying on isolated screenshots.
Business connection
Visibility observations can be connected to qualified visits, conversions or pipeline where attribution is available.
